Manager as Leader

This workshop explores complex leadership concepts and challenges. Each module of the program addresses one of these dilemmas faced daily by managers. Additionally, there are four key messages that are threaded throughout the program: 1) Learn to Learn - becoming a great manager and leader is a life-long learning process, 2) Thrive on Chaos - the ability to see paradoxes and make good choices in light of contradictory evidence is a required skill, 3) See the Whole - being able to see the whole picture helps leaders solve problems and seize opportunity, 4) Know your Strengths - gain a clear understanding of your strengths and build on them. Skill building activities are included in each of the modules. Easy solutions are not always provided, rather managers are prompted, via the four key messages cited above, to make informed choices, analyze the consequences of those choices, and learn from the results. A special feature of this program is a Leadership Makeover Kit - a booklet filled with ideas and suggestions for further reading, study, and follow up for each topic covered.

Problem Solving

We encounter problems on the job every day. Most of us tackle problems in a linear, traditional way. Many of us are blind to the assumptions that are barriers to problem solving. This half day, fast paced program prompts participants to change perspectives and look at old problems in new ways. By changing perspectives, you change what you see and how you act and react. Once you see a problem differently, you are more likely to come up with a different solution. In addition to prompting changing perspectives, you'll discover a multitude of problem solving methods, tools and resources that can be used alone or with a team. By using these techniques you can start to tackle problems that can otherwise seem huge, overwhelming and complex. These tools will give you a starting point in problem solving and help you gain a reputation as both a creative and critical thinker.

Re-Charge Your Writing

As a reader, do you always read every word a writer sends you? The obvious answer is "no." Readers skim and scan documents rather than reading "word for word." Savvy business writers know this. They also know that the average reader will invest less than 30 seconds on a document before they make the decision to read it now, read it later, or never read it! Re-Charge Your Writing is an accelerated version of our two-day program. It is meant for those who already have a solid grasp of grammar and usage rules and conventions. The goal of the program is to help you produce writing that is read, understood and acted upon. Topics covered include: Planning, Guidelines for Effective Writing, Professional Emails, and Editing.

Supervisor as Leader

The supervisory position is a key leadership position in organizations. Most supervisors see their roles too narrowly, just focusing on their relationships with direct reports. This content rich program takes an expanded, holistic approach to supervisory training by including the additional key roles of: direct report to manager; peer with other supervisors; and senior-level individual contributor. Emphasis is placed on how behavior influences others' perceptions and how important those perceptions can be. This workshop is designed to provide supervisors with practical advice, easy-to-learn and easy-to-use tools and a forum to share their frustrations and their successes. Simulations, group discussions and a unique closing review activity called The Great Debate are standout features of this intensive program. Topics covered include: Roles of the Supervisor, Listening, Motivation, Setting and Communicating Expectations, Delegating, and Giving and Receiving Feedback.
